General information about the Skymaster and Super Skymaster
The Skymaster (Cessna 336) and the Super Skymaster (Cessna 337) are twin-engine propeller-driven sails. They were designed by the US company of the same name. The first flight was the Skymaster on February 28, 1961, the market entry followed two years later, in 1963. In the period from 1963 to 1982 2,993 pieces of this model were produced. In Germany, the machine is only limited use. This is due to the emission protection provision, because the aircraft has a strong noise. In designing the Skymaster, a rather unusual design, the central thrust system, was used. The hull of the machine was designed as a gondola. At the bow is one of the engines, the other is at the stern. The arrangement of the motors, located on the central axis, has a great advantage. Because if the engine fails, the Skymaster can still be mastered. The tail of the machine is designed as a double track and the start valves are electric. The first model of the Skymaster was the Cessna 336th Series production began in 1963. There are according to the standard cockpit layout four people in the aircraft. The equipment variant adds two more seats. The Super Skymaster was first introduced in 1965. Differences to the 336 are among other things larger dimensions and stronger engines. The Skymaster and the Super Skymaster are also used militarily. Military users include Belgium, France, United States, Jamaica and Mexico.

The military version (Cessna O-2 Skymaster) is 9.07 meters long and 2.79 meters high. It has a wing span of 11.62 meters and a wing area of 18.81 square meters. The top speed is 332 kilometers per hour and the cruising speed is 315 kilometers per hour. The aircraft has a range of 2,288 kilometers at an altitude of 3,050 meters. The maximal service ceiling is 5,485 meters and the Skymaster has a climb rate of 366 meters per minute. The machine has room for one crew member and five passengers. The empty weight is 1,264 kilograms and the maximum takeoff weight is 2,100 kilograms. Even today, the drive concept of the Skymaster is still used in new productions.
